Real Estate Spam
Filed under: Rants, Real Estate — Norm June 27, 2005 5:35 pm

Sigh… There are few things that get to me like some company trying to pitch the same stupid product and bombarding me with endless repetitions of the same message. Even better when they get an affiliate program going and offer some hapless fool the ability to make more money by bombarding me more!

Do they seriously think that sending me the same message 40 times will make me more eager to buy???

Latest culprit:

ComeListMe.com

Unbelievable! I get 3-4 of their stupid emails every day. They do everything to keep ahead of spam filters. They make up email addresses, people, testimonials, etc.

I would NEVER do business with any company that advertised this way.

And while Proquest technologies might not be a bad product (I don’t know personally), the people that use their affiliate program are relentless. Every single week I delete dozens of posts from people pretending to be offering “advice” to other agents in the forums here only to get people to use their affiliate link.

Never ending stream of “hey does this really work?” and “I heard about this, is it legit?”.

But I guess fortune favors the irritating.

Hi Norman,

I understand your frustration with affiliates who seem to lack control and discretion, and as Marketing Manager for Proquest Technologies, I can candidly tell you we hate the thought of our affiliates spamming chats and inboxes. We don’t encourage it and our policy is to cut anyone off who engages in it. We have a short list of people who this has happened to, including former clients. I personally view chats to see if this is happening and I encourage anyone who experiences or sees this to inform me. Feel free to let me know when you see this happening. Thank you.

I totally agree with this. Does anyone actually respond to SPAM? I work with a company that deals with real estate advertising and we avoid spam like the plague. I think SPAM actually hurts any legitimate company.

best thing is to return spam to the sender and block up there email server

One way to avoid Spam is to have your e-mail server hosted by companies with strong anti-Spam filters. I used to host my own sites; on my server and I was getting 400-500 Spams hits a day. But as soon as I switched to an ISP with strong Spam filters, it dropped down to 5-10 a day. And that was great.

I hate spam as well. I work for the marketing dept of a New Jersey Real Estate company called NJville.com and it’s in our contract that if we spam we will be terminated.

One way to cut back on some spam :)
